Boudoir PEI- How to prepare for a boudoir shoot

SLEEP

Nothing is better for you and your body than a good nights rest so be sure to get enough sleep for a few nights [minimum the night before] before your shoot. You’ll have a refreshed and youthful look and it helps keep the dark circles at bay.

HYDRATE

Water, water, and more water. Make sure you drink lots of water on the days leading up to your shoot. It will not only help your skin glow but it will help with the makeup application process. Also, believe it or not, boudoir and doing a photography session can be quite a workout so it’s good to be hydrated and energized!

MOISTURIZE

Be sure to arrive with a clean face. You can moisturize and hydrate the night before, but be sure to come with a clean face when having your makeup done.

WASH & DRY YOUR HAIR

When getting your hair done, it’s important to come with clean, dry hair. Please keep all products out of your hair.

HANDS & FEET

If you’re trying to decide between polished or unpolished nails, I personally don’t have a preference and if your style is a bit more natural, then go with unpolished! If you do choose polish, nude/blush pink are good choices. Just be sure it’s one or the other and that you you don’t have chipped nail polish. If you have the time & resources, grabbing a mani/pedi the day before can be a nice relaxing way to pamper yourself prior to your shoot.

WAXING/SHAVING

You know your body best, so it’s important you listen to your body and what it prefers most. If you normally wax, go for it. If waxing is painful for you, feel free to shave. If you know that your skin gets really irritated, just do it a few days before. Trust yourself and what your body is ok with. Most poses will have your legs fading off into the background so don’t stress too much about it!

TANNING/SPRAY TANS

I caution people when using any kind of self-tanners, especially if you haven’t used them before. Be sure that if you do want to use any kind of self-tanner that you try it out at least a week prior to your shoot. Please don’t try any new products right before your session. Tan lines are very difficult to remove, so please be careful in the sun before your session to try to minimize harsh tan lines (including watch tans or farmer’s tans if you work in the sun.)

PREPARE A PLAYLIST
Many women like to bring a playlist of their favourite music to play in the back ground during their shoot. I’ll have a wireless speaker you can connect to. If you’re not picky or don’t want to pick your own, I will bring a play list for you :)

EAT BEFORE YOU COME

Eat a small meal before your shoot, don't starve yourself, but please stay away from foods that will make you feel bloated.

HAIR & MAKEUP

I know having your hair and makeup done by someone else can be a scary proposition. You might be worried you won’t look like yourself. I will assure you though, when it comes to having your hair and makeup done it can be a really amazing experience. Every hair & makeup artist I work with is carefully hand selected to ensure you get the best possible experience. We will go over what look you want, and before they leave, we’ll make sure that you are 100% happy with the work they’ve done. Please avoid getting a hair cut right before your session, just in case you aren’t happy with it.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO WEAR?

When it comes to boudoir, there is such a wide range of ways you can capture someone’s sexiness and I personally believe it should be based on your comfort level. There is no ‘one’ way to be sexy, and sexy definitely isn’t just defined by lingerie. Off the shoulder sweaters, lacy tops, a tank top, a button down shirt, stockings, high heels, or barefoot.. there is such a wide variety of options! Find your personal style and don’t be afraid to expand on what feels good and sexy to you! Please cut tags off your lingerie before you come so they don’t show in your photos.
